Motorsport has increased in importance in Qatar in recent years with the success of Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah on the international stage. Khalifa Al-Attiyah finished 16th in the 2003 Rally of Lebanon and was third in both the 1995 and 1996 Qatar National Championships and second in 1994. he currently lies fifth in the MERC after taking a similar position in the 2007 Qatar International Rally.
