The Jordan Rally is unique. Where else on earth can you be hurtling along the gravel tracks of the Dead Sea at 1,200 feet below sea level and a couple of stages later be contemplating twisty mountain routes at 4,000 feet above sea level?

Throw in tough desert and forest tracks, breathtaking natural scenery, stunning castle back-drops and unrivalled hospitality and you are some way near to describing this fascinating event.

Since joining the FIA Middle East Championship in 1982, the Jordan Rally has become a firm favourite among drivers and spectators alike and 2004's event was particularly sweet for the local fans with home favourite Amjad Farrah becoming the first Jordanian to win.

Farrah's own ambitions match that of the organizers with his first venture into the FIA WRC planned for 2005, leading to full participation in the Production WRC hopefully in 2006.

With an army of trained volunteers and marshals at its disposal, the Royal Automobile Club of Jordan takes pride in organizing one of the most eagerly anticipated events of any kind on the country's social and sporting scene.

The support from the community is immense with up to 10,000 spectators annually attending the Super Special Stage, which provides a spectacular launch for the rally on the outskirts of Amman.

This Stage is beamed live to prime time national television and pictures of the rally are shown on highlights packages across the region as well as internationally through 24-hour news and sports channels. The result is a fantastic return for investors and sponsors alike as well as massive exposure for Jordan.

Jordan recognises the value that the FIA WRC can bring to a host country and the clerk of the course, Ziad Louza, is scanning the length and breadth of the country to ensure its natural treasures can be captured globally while competitors enjoy world-class special stages.

Jordan has long used rallying to promote itself internationally with photographs wired digitally to news agencies within seconds of being taken and news packages uploaded nightly onto satellite for global television distribution by Reuters and SNTV.

The Jordan Government, Armed Forces, Police, Amman Municipality as well as hospitals and hotels are firmly behind the country's efforts. The FIA WRC represents a fresh new challenge for all involved with the Jordan Rally, and it is a challenge that is being met head on to ensure motor sports' most exciting Championship becomes truly global and visits its final frontier... the new Middle East.
